Keiji Nakazawa, creator of the semi-autobiographical manga Barefoot Gen, has announced that he will no longer be able to complete his Barefoot Gen sequel due to worsening eyesight.

Nakazawa, underwent surgery in January for a damaged retina and cataract. But, unfortunately, it did not help to improve his sight. Nakazawa states, “Now I can’t draw fine lines.” Poor guy! He managed to finish the first two chapters of the Barefoot Gen sequal. Maybe he can find someone else to aid him? He's a trooper though, Nakazawa states that, although he may not finish the sequel, he will continue to publicly oppose nuclear proliferation.

Nakazawa began Barefoot Gen in 1973, completing the tenth volume in the series in 1985. The manga has been translated into numerous languages and been adapted into two anime films and a live-action TV drama. The manga is currently being distributed in English by Last Gasp.
